Resolved Question: Major Australian Bank shares should I sell? My broker says "NO"?
Recent news/press say there is a looming down turn in banking stocks due to the US sub-prime credit collapses; Reading information from the Australian Stock Exchange it appears that major institutional investors are dumping the Australian Bank Shares. Their prices are currently stable but in prices are declining slightly and there is a big volume of stocks being sold at moment. What do you think I should do, "HOLD" or "SELL" my shares? Additional Info: I have been burnt, by Rams Home Loans shares & Centro shares recently and for both of these my broker said "don't sell"?

Resolved Question: what do you think of little aussie cricketer Don Fraudman?
he managed to turn the biggest financial scandal in South Australian history to his possess profit - and within 48 hours of the first alarm bells ringing "People accused Bradman of stealing the goodwill of the company and basically they were right," said Tom Phillips, a former long-serving Adelaide stock exchange president. "The client list should have been put out to tender so that every brokers could bid for it and the return placed against the Hodgetts' estate for distribution to creditors. Resolved Question: Was Don Bradman a Fraud?
Its difficult to believe but is this true? Headlined "The Don we never knew," David Nason's article in the Australian claims that Bradman showed some of his most nimble footwork when he managed to turn the biggest financial scandal in South Australian history to his possess profit - and within 48 hours of the first alarm bells ringing. The story focuses on the 1945 collapse of Adelaide stockbroking firm HW Hodgetts and Co, which Bradman joined in 1935 after relocating from Sydney. It was a move aimed at securing his future after cricket, but the company went below with debts of more than £120,000. "People accused Bradman of stealing the goodwill of the company and basically they were right," said Tom Phillips, a former long-serving Adelaide stock exchange president. "The client list should have been put out to tender so that every brokers could bid for it and the return placed against the Hodgetts' estate for distribution to creditors. "I have always believed that part of the reason Bradman became so reclusive was that he never wanted to face difficult questioning about the Hodgetts' collapse. "No one can doubt he was a great cricketer, but every this man of honour stuff - where does that arrive from?" And this isn't every, he was greedy to an extent that he hesitated to even offer a round of drinks to his teammates. krishnam dont try to be the "hero of the section" with your "smart comments". every you wanted was 2 points. Resolved Question: Why start a business here in America when Canada has lower corporate taxes and fewer regulations?
If I'm gonna start a business and put people to work I'd be better off in Canada/Australia/New Zealand or at least listing on a Canadian or Australian stock exchange. America's economy is too regulated to be considered a free market anymore. Thank you GWB and Barry.

Resolved Question: Has anyone got any knowledge about selling shares on the australian stock exchange?
Ok so I needed some cash so I decided reluctantly that I would have to sell some shares. I rang the brokerage place that handles my stuff, gave my a/c no, got told the current market price for the shares, but was told as the Aussie market was about to close he could put them out there and look if anyone bought them. (the guy had accent that I had a bit of trouble understanding) anyway then he asked what price I would like to list them as, as the market price was currently $27-75 I said $28. I don't know what he said next. Then he repeated every the details and hung up. NOW i don't know how to tell if the shares sold (besides checking my bank a/c balance in 3 days time) I don't know how long they put them out there at that price. Is it just till midnight tonight? so do they contact me tomorrow if they didn't sell? help I just needed some cash quick NOW i am worried that its not going to b quick just because I plucked a figure out of he air. any help would be appreciated from the hopeless investor.

Resolved Question: Takeover targets and exchange rates?
Hi. With every the crazyness of the last couple of weeks Australian stocks have plunged (like everywhere else) but the Aussie dollar has also plunged in relative value as it's a commodity based currency. In some instances the currency depreciation has been as much as 35%. Regulatory restrictions aside, would this not make Australian companies fantastic value in the global marketplace and potential takeover targets moreso than stock from other countries that haven't seen their currencies depreciate?

Resolved Question: Are stocks that trade on different exchanges the same shares?
For example, if I were to buy BHP, it trades on numerous exchanges including the NYSE. I'm an american, so I have to buy it on the NYSE, but I'm also worried about the devaluation of the dollar. If the dollar becomes worthless, will I still have the same amount of stock that the Australians, etc have? Is it a single pool of shares that you can buy in different currencies and if my currency completely vanishes, I will still possess the stock the same amount as any other country? Thank you. Please only answer the question asked using the assumptions given over.

Resolved Question: How can i trade on the ASX?
There is an Australian Company that I REALLY want to buy a piece of. As in I am willing to bet every dollar I can receive my hands on for the next six months or so on it. The problem is I can't figure out how to buy it at a decent rate. I am not a power trader, just a blue collar worker trying to sock a couple hundred a month away in the market. So this company trades on the ASX and also has a Pink Sheet ADR. I'd much rather trade straight on a real exchange than even start messing with Pink Sheets, but honestly the cost of executing the trades is the most important thing. Obviously if I'm only buying $200 worth of stock at a pop I can't afford $100 commissions for an international trade or even the $30 for an OTC trade. Is there any broker that charges more reasonable rates for this stuff? I don't want to give up over commissions and than have to sob in a year when I look this baby has gone 10 bagger. Help!

Resolved Question: What Do You Think About Population Debate in Australia?
What Do You Think About Population Debate in Australia? For more: https://sites.google.com/site/crimesexposed/population-debate-in-australia Australia is an island continent with a population of a town! The first fleet people were jealous of the second fleet mobs! The European invaders were scared of other invaders since their arrivals and they did everything they could to frighten every possible and fictitious invasions including a trickle of refugees who are drifting at Australian shores today! It is not Phony Tony (Tony Abbott) but a serious pastor named Tom Malthus told us, “supply and demand always stays proportional by destroying excess demand through hunger, disease, war, …”. Many famines and wars like WW1, WW2, …. may have given some credibility to Tom. However, in the long run he was proven to be wrong. Recently many shock jocks and spin doctors told us that a wealthy China will eat out our fish stocks, buy our foods and we have to battle with China for our survival! In reality, they were proven to be wrong and even today they refused to accept their mistakes! Now, China would like to sell more food stuff and fruits to us! Surprisingly, the same shock jocks and spin doctors are using xenophobia to cease those products!! As we discussed earlier in The Hungry Mile to Barangaroo that people of Australia used to be hungry despite the existence of the protective White Australia Policy with a very tiny population without migrants! It is a proven fact that Australia became wealthy and vibrant at the back of migrants and innovations. Australia’s affluence and strength continued to enhance with bigger population like USA and Europe. Last night, conservative Mark O’Connor and pragmatic James Aarvanitakis delivered speeches about Population Growth. Mark was sheltered, fearful and full of old ideas contrary to James. James was innovative, creative and brave. During the interactive exchanges I have presented my ideas based on over materials and many people from the floor including a few speakers supported me. However, due to a noisy interjection of a couple of older people I could not gift the damaging fact about Australian cab industry where pure racism and ignorance are hurting workers interests and society good. This week, Q and A of ABC will conduct a debate about population. wish they will include points mentioned in Population Debate in Australia too. Resolved Question: Australian stock exchange versus U.S. stock exchange??
Can someone enlighten me on how these 2 exchanges work as far as reflecting one another? I know for sure that the ASX is the first market to open for trading during the week globally. I am told it does not matter. I THINK IT DOES. Look at how lousy every the markets are doing. When ASX is in the red-we go into the red. When they are in the green-we go into the green.. With so much turmoil in the US markets i try to keep an eye on the ASX overnight.(before our markets open). The Dow dropped almost 300points on Tuesday. It is now 9:00 pm Tuesday night and the ASX indexes are every in the red.. Again- i was told that the ASX exchange does not predict the US markets. Someone care to elaborate? Thanks.l

Resolved Question: P/E ratio and yield, why is there such a big gap?
Hi I am looking at BHP.AX which has a P/E ratio of 5.98, which I believe is very low, less that half the long term average of the Australian stock exchange. Then I look at the dividend yield which is 4.1%, quite low. If the dividend yield was just the reciprocal of P/E then it should be more like 15%? Is the yield so low because they are re-investing the relax to grow the company? If we are assuming the future earnings growth will be low to moderate, is this a good investment?

Resolved Question: Euro against the Australian dollar?
Hey, I'm going to Australia in July 2011. I have saved a few hundred euro for the trip and I'm going to change some into Australian dollar. Back a few months ago, it was up at: €1 = AU$ 1.79, but it went down to €1 = AU$ 1.40. At the moment it's rising again and it's at €1 = AU$ 1.49. I'm not sure to exchange the money now or wait and look if it goes up again. Does anyone work with stocks and shares or something? Or is it just pot luck if it goes up or down? I would like to exchange at the highest price to receive the most out of my savings.

Resolved Question: What's your dog's life story?
both my dogs have interesting, unhappy, and amazing life stories. i am just curious what your dog's stories are :) Velvet the english cocker spaniel: http://i36.tinypic.com/2m2fbfb.jpg we bought her as a purebred show stock cocker spaniel. my mom wanted specifically this type of dog. and when we bought her, she appeared healthy and perfect. soon she began acting sick and unlike a puppy should...we took her to the vet and it ends up she has a deformed heart...it interferes with her breathing and blood exchange. the vet told us she would not live more than a month, and that nothing can be done whatsoever. we were devastated, i could not believe it. fate was on our side...and she is now 11 years old. she survived it, though she has multiple health problems. this proves that miracles really could happen :) Roxy the miniature australian shepherd: http://i34.tinypic.com/34g9cms.jpg we found my second needy baby in the shelter. we went to the shelter to help my pal find her lost cat, and i saw this beautiful girl. i just fell in adore at first sight. ends up she came from an abused family that beat her...but because of her nice nature she never attacked them or bit back. they just went on abusing her as a puppy until someone files a complaint. the owners did not receive sent to jail, just a fine (which i disagree with highely). the dog was confiscated and taken to the shelter. she is now 3 years old, living happily, and does dog agility :) so, whats your dog's story? i think this is an interesting question and others can receive to know your dog's story :)

Voting Question: Which american based online stock brokers cover the Australian and London exchange.?
I currently use E-Trade Global which is pretty good but I want to receive some specific stocks on these two exchanges but E-Trade doesn't offer the option. I'm not interested in opening an account on E-Trade's australian exchange due to the fees, would rather have one that does its primary business in America.

Resolved Question: Can someone please explain to me what entity, asset, concessional and fiduciary mean in stock marketing terms?
I have been trying to learn definitions of the stock/share market and have got definitions directly from the ASX (Australian Securities Exchange) website but they sound so confusing. Please simplify them for me. Entity: An entity is any legal, administrative or fiduciary arrangement, organizational structure or other party (including a person) having the capacity to deploy scarce resources in order to achieve objectives. Asset: Assets are probable future economic benefits obtained or controlled by an entity as a result of past transactions or events affecting the entity. The essential characteristics of an asset are: •A probable future benefit exists involving a capacity to contribute directly or indirectly to future net cash inflows; •The entity can obtain the benefit and control the access of others to it; •The transaction or event giving rise to the entity’s claim to or control of the benefit has already occurred. Government bonds: Debt security issued by the government. Interest is usually payed twice yearly at a fixed rate for the life of the bond, usually 10 years And concessional and fiduciary i don't understand at every.
